Steve Smith Named New STARS Alliance President

Steve Smith has been named president of the STARS Alliance in Glendale, AZ effective Sept. 12, 2022. Prior to assuming this role, Smith served as vice president of Engineering at Evergy’s Wolf Creek Generating Station in Burlington, KS.

He succeeds Steve Coppock who served as president of the Alliance for the past 12 years.

The majority of Smith’s career was spent at the two-unit Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant in Glen Rose, Texas, operated by Luminant Generation – a subsidiary of Vistra Energy. He retired from Luminant in 2013 as plant manager. Later that year, Smith joined the Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation, where he served as Wolf Creek’s recovery manager, plant manager, and vice president of Engineering.

Smith received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas. His hobbies include classic car restoration and playing the guitar.
